| The
LA County Board of Supervisors Quality and Productivity Commission, at
its 17th annual awards program, presented LACERA with a certificate of
recognition for valuable assistance in contacting terminated employees
for payment of “Undeliverable Payroll Warrants.”
Challenge:
The Auditor-Controller had undeliverable payroll warrants for many terminated
County employees. Without having current mailing addresses, the Auditor-Controller
was unable to contact these former employees and the payroll warrants
remained unpaid.
Action:
The Auditor-Controller contacted LACERA to request retiree addresses.
Due to confidentiality policies, LACERA is not permitted to share member
addresses. Instead, LACERA offered to cross-reference its database with
an electronic file from the Auditor-Controller of the terminated employees.
Then LACERA coordinated a mailing to the former employees explaining the
situation and enclosing instructions to contact the Auditor-Controller.
The former employees contacted the Auditor-Controller for their warrants.
Results:
The Auditor-Controller was able to disburse approximately $200,000 in
previously undeliverable payroll warrants.
