The Board of Retirement has nine members and two alternate members. They meet the 1st Wednesday of the month and the next Thursday in the following week at 9:00 AM.

The first meeting of the month covers service and disability retirement applications, and disability applications/appeals. The second meeting covers administrative matters.

The Board of Investments has nine members. They meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9:00 AM. 

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors appoints four members to each board. The other members are elected as follows: 

• General Member employees elect two members for each board. Safety Member employees elect one member for each board and an alternate member for the Board of Retirement.
• Retired members elect one member for each board and an alternate member for the Board of Retirement.
• The County Treasurer and Tax Collector is required by law to serve on both boards as an ex-officio member.
