LACERA presents free Pre-Retirement Workshops which provide helpful tips and the essential information you need to know before you retire. At the workshop, you will receive a Pre-Retirement Guide. You will learn about retirement eligibility, selecting your official retirement date, service credit, how eHR affects service credit, taxes, health care, ARC purchases, various retirement forms, and more. Retirement doesn't happen overnight; it takes planning and time. Review the Process of Retiring page to help you better understand the steps involved.
Retiring within three to five years?
Follow the steps below to have a successful retirement experience.
- Attend a Pre-Retirement Workshop for valuable information about retirement, financial planning, and the retirement application process.
- Run a Retirement Benefit Estimate (RBE) for yourself on My LACERA.
- Contact LACERA
to obtain a Request for Estimate form at least six months before your retirement date.
- Receive and review a Retirement Benefit Estimate and Election form showing your retirement allowance options from LACERA.
- Complete and return the Retirement Benefit Estimate and Election form prior to your retirement effective date. (Please notify your Department of your retirement date.)
- Approve your retirement application per the Board of Retirement.
NOTE: To rescind your application for retirement, LACERA must receive your request in writing prior to your retirement date.
