RETIREMENT ELIGIBILITY
Retirement eligibility varies depending on your individual plan. Each plan has its own rules that determine eligibility based on age and years of service credit.
General Plans A, B, C, and D
- Age 50 with 10 or more years of service credit
- At any age with 30 years of service credit
- Age 70 regardless of years of service credit
Plan E
- Age 55 with 10 or more years of service credit
- Age 70 regardless of years of service credit
Safety Plans A and B
- Age 50 with 10 or more years of service credit
- At any age with 20 years of service credit
- Age 60—mandatory if hired before April 1, 1997
- To be exempt from mandatory retirement at age 60, safety members of the Sheriff's Department or Fire Department hired prior to April 1, 1997 must submit certification by a County physician indicating they are capable of performing their assigned duties in accordance with the standards set forth by their department. LACERA must receive this certification 30 days before the member's 60th birthday.
Deferred Plan A, B, C, and D Members
- Age 50 having reached the date the individual would have accrued 10 years of County (or combined County and reciprocal system) service credit had they remained in service. (6-14-10)
Deferred Plan E Members
- Age 55
