MEMBERSHIP
There
are two types of members in LACERA: General Members and Safety Members. Safety Members are employees in law enforcement, firefighting, forestry,
and lifeguard classification. All other eligible members are General
Members. CHOICE
OF PLANS
As a general member, you have the choice of two different
plans, contributory Plan
D
or non-contributory Plan
E. You have
sixty days from your date of hire to select a retirement plan. If you don't select a retirement plan, you will automatically become a member of Plan E the first day of the
month following your date of hire as a permanent employee. Safety
Members are automatically enrolled in Safety Plan B.
Plan
D is a contributory retirement plan
You
make monthly contributions in addition to the contributions made by your
employer. Members of Plan D may be eligible to purchase retirement
service credit for prior County, State, Federal (military), or other public employment.
You can view the details of Plan D online. You may transfer to Plan E in the future, if you wish.
Plan
E is a non-contributory retirement plan
Your
employer makes all contributions on your behalf. These contributions
are not paid to you if you terminate County service prior to retirement. Plan E members cannot purchase prior retirement service credit. You can view the details of Plan E online. You
can transfer prospectively to Plan D and keep your Plan E service. |
