RETIRED MEMBERS - ADDRESS AND NAME CHANGES
You can make changes to your address or name over the phone, call LACERA at 1-800-786-6464 or (626) 564-6132.

BENEFICIARY CHANGES
You may change your beneficiary for the $5,000 lump sum death benefit at any time after retirement.

However, the option you selected at retirement may restrict changes to your Priority 1 beneficiary designation after retirement:

  • If you selected the Unmodified Retirement Allowance or Option 1 at retirement, you may change your beneficiary designation at any time after retirement. However, the new beneficiary will receive only the balance of the accumulated contributions, if any.
  • If you selected the Unmodified+Plus option at retirement, you may change your beneficiary designation if you no longer have a spouse, domestic partner, or eligible minor children to receive the allowance.
  • If you selected Option 2, Option 3, or Option 4, you may NOT change your beneficiary designation after retirement, even if the beneficiary you named at retirement predeceases you.

You may change your beneficiary over the phone, call LACERA at 1-800-786-6464.

MARRIAGE AND DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP
In order for a spouse or domestic partner to be eligible for a monthly survivor's allowance, the date of marriage or domestic partnership registration must be:

  • one year prior to retirement if you received a service retirement or nonservice-connected disability retirement
  • prior to retirement if you received a service-connected disability retirement

If you marry or register a domestic partnership after you retire, your spouse or domestic partner would be eligible to receive your remaining contributions and interest, if any, upon your death (not a monthly survivor's allowance).

An eligible spouse or domestic partner may be added to your Retiree Health Care coverage. See the Health Care Eligibility & Enrollment page for more information.

If you divorce after you retire, contact LACERA to update your records. See the Dissolution of Marriage page for more information.
