LACERA-ADMINISTERED HEALTHCARE BENEFITS PROGRAM
The LACERA-administered healthcare benefits program applies to current retirees and members hired prior to June 30, 2014.
LACERA offers retirees a choice of medical plans, as well as two dental/vision plans. Retirees can choose an HMO or Indemnity medical plan, or select a Medicare HMO or supplemental plan. Over 40,000 retirees and dependents are currently enrolled in a LACERA-administered healthcare benefits program. In addition, for members over 65, we offer Medicare supplement or Medicare HMO plans. For a complete listing of the plans, see Healthcare Plans. Annually, you will receive a complete package in the mail containing all the LACERA healthcare options that are available.
NOTE: When you retire, you must select a new medical, dental, and vision plan within 60 days of your retirement. Your active member medical coverage will not continue after retirement.
Tier 2 retiree healthcare program affects county employees hired after june 30, 2014
New County employees hired after June 30, 2014 will be eligible for benefits provided under the County Retiree Healthcare Benefits Program — Tier 2 (Tier 2) when they retire.* Tier 2 does not affect current retirees or members with hire dates prior to June 30, 2014. Read all about it. (7-7-14)
*Affected new employees first became eligible for LACERA membership on or after August 1, 2014 and were not eligible for reciprocity with a reciprocal agency based on service prior to August 1, 2014.
