Having emerged from the sea millions of years before its neighboring islands, Kaua'i is home to the softest sands, grandest rivers and most verdant rain forests in all of Hawaii. Archaeological evidence suggests that Kaua'i was the first island populated by seafaring Polynesians about 400 A.D. Historically, the name Kaua'i has been translated to mean "season of abundance" or "time of plenty".
