Mr. Robbins is the longest-serving LACERA trustee. He was first elected in 1997 to fill the vacant safety seat after the death of Bob Hermann. Mr. Robbins was then elected to fill the primary safety member seat on both the Board of Retirement and the Board of Investments. He continued to serve on both boards until his retirement in December 2004, at which time he was appointed to the Board of Retirement by Supervisor Don Knabe. He continued serving as Supervisor Knabe's appointee on the Board of Retirement until 2018, when Knabe was termed out of office. The following year Mr. Robbins was elected to his current position as the retiree representative on the Board of Retirement.

His notable accomplishments include the following:

  • 30-year career with the Sheriff's Department; promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1988
  • 12 years as director of the Association of L.A. Deputy Sheriffs, serving as president seven times, more than anyone in the history of the organization
  • First rank and file member of the Sheriff's Department to be elected to a local city council, serving on the Long Beach City Council from 1988 to 1998 representing District 5
  • While on Long Beach City Council, served as chair of the Traffic and Infrastructure Committee, vice chair of the Public Safety Committee, and member of the Economic Development and Finance Committee
  • Brought ALADS into the AFL-CIO in 1984 in affiliation with the Marine Engineers Benevolent Association
  • Veteran of the United States Army; served one tour in Vietnam
  • Member of the Long Beach City College Alumni Hall of Fame
  • Associate of Arts Degree from Long Beach City College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University at Long Beach.
  • Extensive experience in both local and state governmental affairs; lobbied for legislation at state and federal levels
  • Married to his wife, Cynthia, for 47 years and he still resides in the City of Long Beach.
