From the day you become a member of LACERA and throughout your career and retirement, LACERA is with you. We're also there for your eligible survivors and beneficiaries when you can’t be. Our relationship with you is fostered over the course of your career and well beyond your retirement.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Watch the New Member Process video below to see, step by step, how the process of becoming a new LACERA member unfolds. An HR professional in your Department will meet with you to review and sign a Sworn Statement, and LACERA will mail a New Hire Welcome package for you to review and complete as applicable, and return to LACERA.

GENERAL PLAN G AND SAFETY PLAN C RETIREMENT PLANS

LACERA has two categories of membership: general and safety. Safety members are employees in law enforcement, firefighting, forestry, and lifeguard classifications. All other eligible members are general members.

General members who became new members of LACERA on or after January 1, 2013 are automatically enrolled in General Plan G. Safety members who became new LACERA members on or after January 1, 2013 are automatically enrolled in Safety Plan C. These plans were created to address changes required by provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA).

Plan G and Plan C are both contributory plans; members make a flat-rate semimonthly contribution to their plan through automatic payroll deductions. General member contribution rates and safety member contribution rates on all LACERA plans are subject to change.

ANNUAL COMPENSATION LIMIT

General Plan G and Safety Plan C members are subject to an annual compensation limit used to calculate retirement benefits. The limit is adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index. For more information, visit the Compensation Limits page or call 800-786-6464 to speak with a Retirement Benefits Specialist.
